In March 2026, the University of Novo Mesto hosted the first on-site training workshop of the ELIX project's Pillar 1 programme, bringing together students from partner institutions across Europe for three days of collaborative learning, reflection, and action.
The programme, focused on Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility, followed the Community Service-Learning (CSL) methodology — a pedagogical approach that connects academic learning with real community needs. Students moved through a structured arc: from understanding societal frameworks and ethical thinking on day one, to identifying social challenges and developing micro CSL projects on day two, to presenting their work and planning future engagement on the final day.
Among the projects presented was "Bridging the Gap," a student-led initiative exploring how to increase Erasmus participation through improved safety and information access — a topic directly relevant to the students themselves.
The workshop concluded with a certificate ceremony, marking not just participation, but a commitment to continued civic engagement beyond the programme.
ELIX (European Labour Mobility-led Career and Service-Learning System in Higher Education) is an Erasmus+ KA2 project involving six partner institutions. The University of Novo Mesto serves as the local host for the Slovenian mobility component.
